Element 3D v2 will be out some time in November. A fair amount of information regarding what the new version will contain is covered here.
Andrew Kramer recently revealed a new model that he is particularly excited about.
The new specular model takes advantage of the improved physical shader system that's coming in Element 3D v2, and features a natural light falloff that helps create more realistic shaders. The specular can be made to be much smaller and sharp or large and diffused. Andrew notes that this may sound like a minor thing but insists that this small level of detail can make a large difference.
