Avid Media Composer 5 launches Posted almost 8 years ago by N/A - Posted in Software
So the latest version of Avid's Media Composer is launched, although I've not seen too much fanfare on what's been upgraded to be honest - very different from Adobe's hype around CS5. Still according to their own eNews letter:
• Stop transcoding and start editing RED, QuickTime, and Canon tapeless media immediately
• Edit faster and easier than ever with the new Smart Tool
• Set up a cost-effective, third-party monitoring solution with Matrox MXO2 Mini
• And more!
So the first point is certainly of interest - editing footage natively is always preferable and certainly speeds workflow. As does better integration with Matrox MXO2 Mini. Exactly what the new "Smart Tool" is, I cannot find any text on although a video does exist, I wanted to read about changes (how luddite!)
Lastly the pulling of Script Synch from Media Composer and it becoming a seperate product. This has certainly been for some a key differentiator for Avid, so to break it out as an optional extra (except for upgrades) seems an odd move. Especially considering the power of the engine (its produced by Nexidia, who AV3 Sofware are working with on our 'get' for FCP product).
So is this a game changing release from Avid - not entirely convinced - especially with Script Synch being removed... What are your thoughts?
